MISSION TO ADOPT

Adoption is a huge process. Deciding when to adopt and where to adopt from is one of the biggest decisions a family can make. One of my co-workers who has adopted two children told me we would 'know' when we found the right program. She was right. We researched every option - domestic, foster care, and every international adoption program we could find. Poland clicked with us. A lot of research is the key to getting started. It can be overwhelming, but I found it all very interesting - and a bit heartbreaking. There are a lot of children out there who need a home. We are still preparing and waiting, but the journey is all a part of the reward.

Here are some website I have found to be invaluable:

Adoption Web Sites

• US Department of State Intercountry Adoption Page  -This site is a must for parents pursuing international adoption. It provides information about each country and procedures for international adoption. It also has info on the Hague Convention, and there is a list of Hague Accredited Agencies (be sure to check this!). The site also provides important adoption alerts concerning changing adoption policy in foreign countries. 

• Adoption.com -This provides a wealth of information about everything adoption related. It is a great resource for help in finding an agency and what steps to take when starting the adoption process. The forums also have a lot of great discussion about the adoption experience.
  

• Hague Convention Countries -A list of countries that have signed the Hague Convention.

• Hague Accredited Agencies and Agencies Denied Accrediation

• National Adoption Center  -Provides a lot of information about different types of adoption.

•  Foster Care Adoption  -Provides information and resources for adopting a child from the U.S. foster care system.
